Nearly 80 new recruits graduate from academy as members of the Bonita Hoffner class

Almost 80 new corrections officers will begin work at facilities statewide following their graduation from the Bonita Hoffner Academy class.

The officers completed eight weeks of classroom instruction and will now start working at their assigned facilities for eight weeks of on-the-job training.

The graduation ceremony in Lansing included remarks from class namesake Bonita Hoffner, Deputy Director Ken McKee and Officer Jacklyn Chariet, who was selected as the class representative.

Hoffner retired as warden of Lakeland Correctional Facility in 2017.

Graduates also received awards for academic achievement and personal conduct.

Chase Lanning — Women’s Huron Valley Correctional Facility

Chase Braman — G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility

Shamari Matthews — Women’s Huron Valley Correctional Facility

Jacob Sylvester — Carson City Correctional Facility

Andrew Fuller — Carson City Correctional Facility

Justin Muir — St. Louis Correctional Facility

Vincent Ryckman — G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility
