Houseplants are everywhere right now, they’re gracing your favourite coffee shops, magazines and blogs. They’re on Instagram and Pinterest, and there’s even startups who’ll deliver them to your door.
Love them or loathe them, houseplants are here to stay for 2018. Here at MicroMkt we are firmly in the love camp, with a selection of houseplants big & small adorning our office. It’s a jungle out there, here’s our 3 favourite plants for your house this year.
- Variegated Aspidistras
2018 is the year for variegated, according to the green fingered guys at The Telegraph, with its unique look incorporating irregular streaks and patches it’s a definite head turner. It’s big, impactful, and thankfully tough as old boots.
2. Ferns
Houseplant expert Jane Ferrone has made it her New Year’s resolution to get into ferns. She knows what she’s talking about (literally, she has her own podcast talking about houseplants) so that’s as good a reason as any to jump aboard the bandwagon and get yourself a fern in 2018.
3. Aloe Vera
We all know of its soothing qualities - but did you know, if you put one of these guys in your kitchen or bathroom it will help withdraw the in-air-toxins given off by all those chemical rich cleaning products? They look great and are small enough for even the pokiest of spaces.

- Ikea — in that section at the end where you normally spend millions on things you don’t really need…you can now find good, affordable houseplants.

- You’ll kill them with kindness — don’t overwater your houseplants.
- Prune away at any dead or damaged leaves.
- Give them a clean — dust can prevent your plants getting all the good stuff they need to grow.
- Sun — some are sun worshipers and some are not, find out your plant’s vibe.
