Online Chaos Demands Radical Action by Journalism to Earn Trust

Whilst trust and verifiability of facts are key aspects to establish credibility, this is hardly the domain of an index that claims to be driven by algorithmic selection. MidasLetter.com has been providing quality and original coverage of news in the Canadian small business space, yet Google arbitrarily excludes us from their news index, and provides zero engagement with our editors to provide any rationale as to why, electing to anonymously refer us to the highly contradictory and vague “news guidelines”. The trust proofing systems suggested in this article need to be correlated with a publicly open audit system to ensure the index operators (Google) are not using such policy to further their own business interests, such as using the program to promote news outlets that are serious ad revenue clients for Google.

From out perspective, the claim that index management is driven by information integrity rings false, as our experience indicates otherwise.
