In talking about elephants in the room, I’m surprised the author didn’t add teacher’s unions to the list. How can the educational system have real change when the teacher’s unions block anything that interferes with their power and influence. The same thing can be said for the strangle hold that the colleges of education have on what is taught and their alliance with state departments of education.
Nothing will change regarding student outcomes until these very real “elephants” are discussed and changed. Until then, any change will simply be cosmetic and designed to make people feel like they are doing something positive.
