Carpe Diem — Listen to Carmen #3 in Series

A short, but relevant, one today.

One of the “gifts” of cancer has been the foresight and acceptance that tomorrow may not be better than today. As depressing and hopeless as it may sound, it’s actually not. It’s more of a kick in the ass, a reminder that if you want to do it, don’t wait. Captured more eloquently by a friend, also a MM patient, Carmen frequently reminds us to “Carpe Diem!”

Here is a picture of Carmen, bill, and Jeanie at the MMRF Gala in 2016. Carmen was recovering from an Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplant and made it perfectly clear she was not going to miss this opportunity to be with friends and generous supporters at this annual event.

Carmen, bill, and Jeanie — MMRF Annual Gala — 10/29/16

I read an incredible article today highlighting Carmen and her husband Mike. This amazing couple will be riding with the MMRF Road to Victories team in September. Carmen will complete the 546 mile ride with our team from LA to Flagstaff, AZ and Mike will continue across country to complete the 3,400 mile journey.

Here is a quote from the article linked below in Community Magazine that resonated with me:

“That process gets revisited often, but Carpe Diem brings me back to the here and now. Being present now, knowing this is all we have, the present. The past is gone, the future is so uncertain and scary for me, but it’s also hopeful with all the new treatments and clinical trials for MM. So, I try and Carpe Diem everyday…it’s not easy, it can be exhausting, it doesn’t always happen…but I try.”

Please read and enjoy this article and remember, Carpe Diem!
