April 1 Continued — The obvious unanswered question about Childhood Budgets, plus a few more

A follow-up to this morning’s update. Consider the following boy:

  • Born May 2015
  • Went on the old OAP waiting list at his regional provider in March 2017 (just before his 2nd birthday)
  • New OAP starts April 2019 (just before his 4th birthday)
  • He gets “accepted” into the new OAP in September 2020 (when he is around 5 years and 4 months old).

How much will he receive in his “Childhood Budget”? This shouldn’t be a hard question — it should be exactly the kind of question addressed on a government website.

Also:

  • How will his file transfer over from the old wait list to the new one?
  • Who do his parents contact to find out the child’s spot on the current waiting list?
  • What services will this child be able to access?
  • How will the Childhood Budget be augmented to address his needs?
  • Will there even be any services to access in his area, given layoffs and no program to ensure support in rural/remote/Northern areas or for Franco-Ontarians?
  • If the wait list is being “eliminated”, why did this child have to wait 3.5 years for services, most of that time under the current government?
  • Why can’t we get any answers?
  • Have I mentioned this program has already started?
