I’m so sorry you’ve experienced this shit. Sadly, I don’t know any women who haven’t been at the receiving end of comments and jeers that have ranged from “unsettling” to downright terrifying.

This bit really hit home: “…managed to have a couple big white guys harass her on King St. while she was wearing a big coat and scarf and toque…”

I was walking down Queen St. West a few years ago, wearing an ankle-length black coat, hat, and scarf against the biting cold, and a guy called me a whore and proceeded to throw crumpled beer cans at me. 
I now live in the middle of nowhere, Quebec, and it startled me that this is the first time in 30 years that I don’t have to brace myself against the onslaught of jackassery every time I leave the house.

How sad is that?
