100 DAYS WRITING CHALLENGE
Day Forty Three
Let's go back into the biblical history tonight, in relation to Israelites' experience. During their struggle for freedom from Egyptian oppression, an incident occurred. They were asked to kill a lamb, sprinkle its blood on their post, and eat the meal under locked doors, while the Lord killed all other firstborns. Let me analyse a bit further. That particular night, something serious and deadly was to happen, all firstborns of the family would be killed, except on some conditions. The set condition is to kill a lamb, sprinkle its blood on the door post, lock the doors and eat the lamb after it has been roasted. Upon seeing the blood of the lamb on their doorposts, they shall not be killed. This story is found in the bible, the twelfth chapter of the book of Exodus, to be exact.
Now, to be more realistic, that must have sounded too simple to be true, or too simple to erase all fears. Imagine I was an Isrealite firstborn, or a parent to a firstborn child in the land of Egypt then, and I heard that overnight, firstborns would die except I do some particular things, of course I'd do them. However, even after I had done them, I might still be scared, you know? So, permit me to introduce you to the Family Xee and Family Xaw, both are Israelite families.
Family Xee, having heard of the incumbent evil, did all the set conditions. While they sat in the house to eat the meal, called Passover, they ate it with joy, knowing they've done their part, probably had a family gist while eating, broke the bones too and slept soundly. While Family Xaw, also having heard of the incumbent evil were filled with fear. You see, they did the conditions and all, but they were scared, thinking "what if it doesn't work?" "what if our firstborn dies overnight?", so they probably ate in utter silence, shed some tears and stayed awake all night.
Well, in the end, families Xee and Xaw were saved from the evil disaster, but while Family Xee enjoyed the ride, family Xaw merely feared the way through. Even if the families hadn't been saved, one would have still enjoyed the ride. It is not their mood that determined the aftermath, so why not just enjoy it, while expecting whatever comes through.
In the same vein, this applies to us, in a way. So, you don't know what the future holds for your career, whether you would become a successful musician or not, whether it's only your friends that'll buy your books when you write one, whether you'll be recognised when you go into politics, whether you'll graduate with what you want or not, from the university. It's not a crime not to know, but why not sprinkle the blood, and enjoy the meal? Sprinkling the blood means doing your part, learning, unlearning, relearning, practicing, working, doing everything it takes on your part, and enjoy the meal, enjoy the process without a fear of what comes next.
Whether you're scared or not, what determines the future is not your fears, it's your actions, so why not act and enjoy the process? The fear would not guarantee the future, so why not remain happy? Having done all you need to do, just chill out, enjoy the process, enjoy today, enjoy it all while waiting for the aftermath of tomorrow. Tomorrow will come, whether you're at peace or not. Do not get me wrong though, I do not mean the future cannot be guaranteed, of course it can, it can be guaranteed in what you do and what you believe in, but even while waiting for the manifestation of this "future", take away fear, it wouldn't help anyway.
So, dear reader, maybe you've heard the news about what to do to be saved from future problems, do your part and remain calm. Kill the lamb, sprinkle its blood, roast the lamb and enjoy the meal. Forget the what-ifs and maybes, enjoy the trip to your future, do not fear all your way through, it won't help anyway.
