Since 2013, MindWorks has been investing in Asia’s brightest entrepreneurs to build transformational companies. From Fintech to Logistics, we invest in all sectors that we believe are ripe for innovation. As such, we have always had an interest in the development of blockchains, and have been carefully monitoring the growth of the Web 3 ecosystem. One of our earlier investments into blockchains is BlockApps in 2016, which offers Blockchain-as-a-Service (BaaS) to Enterprises. We recognize that developers are moving into the tokenized world, and we need to continue supporting innovative builders who are at the forefront of shaping the Web 3 ecosystem.
We are pleased to announce that with our latest flagship vehicle, Fund IV, we will be actively investing in Crypto and the real-world infrastructure supporting Web 3. Our goal is to foster innovation in Blockchains, advance the infrastructure within Crypto and its connection with the real world, and support builders in creating exciting applications to further expand the use cases of blockchains.
We see a lot of need for development in the critical infrastructure in Web 3 across the user journey. The usual first step to onboarding users into Crypto is through exchanges and having a trusted and reliable exchange is crucial to the organic growth of the industry. Our investment in Zipmex, a leading, fully-regualted Crypto Exchange in Southeast Asia, highlights our conviction that a strong foundation is necessary for a thriving Web 3 economy. We are excited to watch their development as they make Web 3 more accessible in the evolving regulatory landscape across Southeast Asia.
Moreover, it has become clear to us that the future of Web 3 is Multi-Chain. Each blockchain will likely form its own distinctive ecosystem based on the network’s comparative advantage and value proposition to both users and developers. MindWorks has invested in NEAR and Partisia as each offers a compelling and unique value proposition — whether it is advanced sharding technology or emphasis on privacy, and we look forward to working with them to grow their ecosystems.
A lot of exciting innovation is also happening at the application layer in Web 3. DeFi, GameFi and NFTs have brought a lot of use cases to Crypto beyond currencies. We are eager to empower the next generation of builders to develop protcols across blockchains to solve today’s legacy inefficiencies while reducing the friction for those joining us in the future.
Going forward, we will be publishing content weekly to discuss some of the latest metrics and trends we see in Web 3. We will also be exploring some of the interesting developments in Crypto happening on social media.
