Growth Hack Your Facebook Organic Reach.
One simple but very effective tip which you’ll use again. And again.
As the saying goes, “Everything has cracks, that’s how the light gets in.” And this post is about one of those cracks, a hole in the mighty Facebook algorithm that you can exploit like crazy (until someone seals it up again).
We all know that Facebook’s algorithm is geared around making you as a business spend money to promote your content or products. And, we’ve talked much about this. We’ve even defended it—you want free Facebook, you’ve got to put up with a few ads and some data collection along the way. #manup
And, as a result of Facebook wanting you to boost your content using its various (really great) tools, your organic reach is never going to be very high.
But this tip/hack/cheat could give you an added boost.
The basis of the hack lies in the fact that Facebook does not want you to leave the site. Just like you don’t want people to bounce off your own homepage. Makes no sense, right?!
So the process sort of tricks Facebook into thinking you’re not trying to encourage people to do so. So, firstly, find your content/blog post which you’d like to share with your followers. Open the external site and then grab a nice image from that piece of content. We’d hazard a guess that you’re not used to doing this because, today, Facebook automatically grabs an image from the content’s link. But this hack requires that you do have a separate image.
- Write a post but do not include a link yet.
- Drag the image from your desktop into the Facebook post creator.
- Add the link to the external site or piece of content.
- Publish.
And that’s it. we’ve been doing this for a few days (and our content guy’s been doing it with some of his other clients) and it works a charm. It’s a little hit and miss but you do begin to see some dramatic increases in your organic reach.
