Power and Greed

We put them in power
To rule, guide and represent us
And they did just that
With pride and respect for the people
We loved and respected them as well
Pride ran through our veins

But things changed as soon as they got used to the power
They abused it
Consumed with greed
Their motives weren’t for us anymore
But for themselves

Our love turned into hate
Our respect turned into fear
Our pride turned into resentment and anger
Freedom of speech became a crime only the brave would commit
