I’ll just say this. Looking back, #GamerGate was really about identity politics seeping into a hobby, hence the #NotYourShield hashtag appeared. I would argue it began when Zoe Quinn threw “The Fine Young Capitalists” under the bus months earlier for what she claimed was “transphobia” on their part. Their crime? Encouraging women to be game developers. The rest is history.

Call it neo-progressiveness run amok. It happened with Atheism+ and it happened with videogames. In my view, that is what #GamerGate was really about.

The only winners were Zoe Quinn and Anita Sarkeesian. The former has her own Wikipedia page and the latter profited in many ways. Both got their 15 minutes of fame in the mainstream media too.
