Being Muslim Should Not Be a Problem
A lot of people want to raise the thought that ever since ISIS being a muslim has become even harder. I do not disagree with that statement but even before ISIS, being Muslim has been hard none the less. For my topic, I decided to use a CNN article, “The Republican’s Muslim ‘problem’”. This article talks about different people of power and their views on the Muslim culture. The article goes into detail on the fact that they disapprove of this culture and have conspiracy theories of their intentions. We have also seen the story of a muslim student who brings in a homemade clock and is accused of being a terrorist. The student was falsely accused and his project turned into a scandalous issue amongst the news. It has been said that the school did not take proper precaution even if it was a real bomb.
The impact of the internet and societies problem with the muslim culture has been major. The internet news has been able to cover different angles to this problem, for example discovering that the school did not take proper precaution and then revealing it online allowed people to make shorter condense versions of the news in forms of a tweet. Yes there still is a whole lot of slacktivism and people do not actually take course into making this issue better, but the issues are being known. The Republicans ‘Islamization’ myth is now out there and people through the internet are being aware. People are also being influenced through the internet to take on a different view of what is happening as well. The student and his homemade clock raised people’s awareness but the way it was shown online also made people feel more sympathetic to his case. The Islamization myth has made people have a negative view on what the Republicans stand for.
