Hmmmm, it’s all a little overwhelming. Yesterday my uni lecture gets our Comm140 class to start blogging and tweeting. I started off a little rusty, however I navigated my way around and found how useful they both can be. I felt a little bit of pride in my first few tweets and blog. Unfortunately, with progression comes new tasks and more complication. Today we are asked to blog about ‘Why do I need to become a Reflective Practitioner?’. The word ‘reflective practitioner’ has me shacking at the knees and dreading what it is I might say.

Like any new task, I need to get my head around what a reflective practitioner is…… Google was my next step and I now believe a reflective practitioner is simple BLOGGING….

So, what is blogging? blogbasic.com says blogging is

Considering I will be using my blog for my educational journey, I followed my lecturers advice and followed everyone she suggested on the white board. How great is that…..straight away I was connecting with educational professionals who were sharing resources and thoughts. They were retweeting things they found interesting and my knowledge base was growing experientially.

Instead of finding myself looking at Facebook in my spare time, I now find myself tapping on to my Twitter or blog apps and seeing what new has been posted. Instead of rolling my eyes about Facebook posts, posting people’s every move or sour thoughts, I am engaging in interesting teaching ideas and resources. I am learning in a way that I find easy and accessible in an environment I like.

I guess if it works for me, why not continue on with it. I can continue blogging to share and reflect on what I learn along my teaching journey and hope that I can connect with others in the same boat. Reading other people’s blogs allows me to see inside their thoughts and in some cases, identify with some of their thoughts. I feel this helps in finding direction and meaning in what I will do as an educators.

Having this new source of reflection or blogging allows for me as an individual to evaluate what I am doing and compare how others are doing things. The comparison is not to be used in a negative way but in a way to improve and grow in my educational learning space.

Keep posted to see how I progress as a ‘reflective practitioner’.
