The Benefits of Health Insurance?
I’ve written before about Diane and the health issues she’s faced this year. Earlier today, I spoke with her husband, who was somewhat bewildered: that’s unusual for him. He’s an intelligent chap with an IQ over 150, and not much puzzles him. Here’s what had him at a very uncharacteristic loss for words.
Diane’s neurologist is sending her for an MRI of her brain in an effort to get to the bottom of her problems. This afternoon, the facility that will be doing it called, and her husband spoke with their representative. An appointment was set, and they got to discussing the financial aspect of things. This is where it gets bizarre…..
If it gets put through the insurance, they have to pay nearly $1000 towards the deductible. If, on the other hand, they pay the facility directly, it’s $665. Their “cash price”, if you will. No, I can’t make sense of it either.
He’s going to call his insurers tomorrow and ask them to explain how this is arrived at. I’ll comment further once he tells me.
