You Have To Understand the “Why” To Understand The “Niche”

How are you doing?
I must admit that I was doing rubbish before I started to really understand what was happening inside the mind of my ‘online prospects’ If you are not having much success just yet, I want you to answer ONE simple question.
Here is the question:
WHY ARE PEOPLE WANTING TO __________ ?
…sorry, I forgot to finish the question, but that is the point. Now apply this question to your industry.
Why are people wanting to lose weight?
Why are people wanting to make a lot of money?
Why are people wanting to buy clothing for their dogs?
Why are people wanting an education?
Now take one of your “interests” and apply this same why question to it. If you can answer the “WHY” within any industry, I can guarantee that you will have given it enough thought to succeed with any campaign. I think that you will also find that there are several answers within any particular industry, and this is where you can start catering to smaller audiences. Let’s just take a look at a couple industries:
**WEIGHT LOSS
Why are people wanting to lose weight. Well there are several reasons. One, they may want to fit into a bikini for the upcoming vacation or nice summer weather. They may have just been dumped and want to improve their dating life. New years may have just passed and they could be losing weight as their resolution. What about weddings…people lose weight for weddings. They may be attending a reunion.
If you read into an industry like this, things that do not seem so apparent will become quite obvious very quickly. You could easily target these five or six industries now with very targeted campaigns. Further…let’s look at reasons people want to lose weight. Put yourself into their shoes…as they look into the mirror?
“Geez, I have a double chin”
“Is that Cellulite I can see?”
“Man, I am starting to get back fat”
Do you see how this conversation could go on and on? and on?… Do you see how these are motivated type of conversations in a potential dieters mind? Now we can start to play with those conversations…and how they may type it into the search engines…

Now couple these words with some time frames. People tend to want to lose weight quickly. Say that a woman wants to lose her double chin before her wedding…
How to lose double chin fast
how to lose double chin quick
how to lose double chin in 2 weeks
…or MAYBE EVEN she has given up and wants to know ways to cover it up?

pills to lose double chin
double chin surgery
double chin liposuction
etc…
Do you see how that is working? Let’s take another line of thought? What sort of things do overweight customers experience in their day to day lives that they would search for online?
-plus size clothing
-diet foods
-health related books
-etc
These could be more promotional angles (and keywords) that you could target with your content. And what about a place where customers hang out?
-Forums
-Social Networks
-Facebook
These are great places to find out what people within ANY niche are talking about or buying. It can really help fill in the WHY component of your marketing. Now, when choosing keywords give some thought into “customer motivation”. Who will be the best customer…who will buy something sooner? Someone searching for…
“weight loss tips”
…or someone who searches for:
“how to remove cellulite from my thighs”
The latter is going to connect you with a customer who will buy sooner. There are millions of keywords out there, all you have to do is give it a bit of thought. Put yourself in your customers shoes and answer the “WHY”. And here is a bonus for ya for getting inside WA….
