Surrounded by Great Men
I have forever been surrounded by great men.
Warriors.
Gentlemen.
Scholars.
Kings.
Those were the men that watched over me as if I were a queen.
At birth I was blessed with a fortune that was before unseen.
No other in the world has walked beside as many great men as I.
No other has been able to say that their blood run through her veins.
For some of these great men, this path was destined from the start.
For others, this journey and their path was was a choice made of their free will.
Whatever the reason for their station- be fate or free will- they have never failed me.
Yes. I have forever been surrounded by great men and my affection for them is unsurpassed.
No warriors have been fierce enough to triumph those protecting me.
No gentleman has been as honest or honorable as the ones beside me.
No scholar has been able to bestow knowledge that hasn’t already been given to me.
And every man is but a peasant compared to my kings.
But it appears as if my warriors will be defeated.
A gentlemen more chivalrous than those I have known is trying to take their place.
An intellectual the likes of which my scholars have never seen will try to make them look a fool.
He is the most exquisite anomaly.
And he is attempting to overthrow my kings.
He is a phenomenon.
A surprise, if you will.
A rarity that shattered my perceptions.
Yes, I am surrounded by great men and have found myself enamored with the greatest of all.
But like most white knights that swoop in under the cover of darkness he was but a figment of my imagination.
An illusion that my dreams must have conjured.
I should have known that such a mythical creature could never truly be.
And now he has fled with my bleeding heart no longer in his hands
I survey the wreckage he has wrought
Foundations have crumbled
Towers have collapsed
Even the wind itself even longs to trail that wolf in sheep’s clothing
But there in the distance I see that my protectors still stand
Strong.
Steadfast.
Loyal.
True.
I am surrounded by many a great men.
Warriors.
Gentlemen.
Scholars.
Kings.
And yet again they have protected me.
To my throne they will return me with my tattered heart repaired.
And my sword I shall sharpen because next time they will not slay my demons alone.
