Josh Hawley is Under Investigation for Allegedly Voting Illegally

He’s either lying to Missourians about where he lives or voting in a county in which he does not legally reside.

On Friday, it was reported that the Boone County Clerk has opened an investigation into whether Attorney General Josh Hawley voted illegally in the August 8 special election.

As KOMU reported, “Attorney General Josh Hawley’s voting in the special election on Aug. 8 is being called into question. Boone County Clerk, Taylor Burks, is investigating Hawley after a Boone County resident raised concern.”

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch Editorial Board broke down Hawley’s “particularly suspicious vote,” explaining his dilemma:

“As attorney general, Hawley should be the first to acknowledge that ignorance is no excuse for breaking the law. So how could it be that he legally cast a vote in a place where he doesn’t live anymore? State law requires the attorney general to reside in Jefferson City, which forced him to move from his Boone County residence about a 20-minute drive away.”

And the Jefferson City News Tribune editorialized on Hawley’s decision to vote in the Boone County special election, saying

“…The attorney general, of all people, should follow the spirit and letter of the law.”

Missouri Democratic Party Communications Director Meira Bernstein added:

“Attorney General Josh Hawley, our state’s top law enforcement official, is either lying to Missourians about where he lives or voting in a county in which he does not legally reside. Either way, it is concerning that Josh Hawley seems to think the law doesn’t apply to him.”
