Over 80 Missouri Doctors & Medical Students Call on Jeff City Officials to Oppose GOP’s Healthcare Overhaul

Missouri Doctor Ed Weisbart: “We Deserve to Know What They Think About This Bill”

KRCG TV is reporting that over 80 Missouri physicians and medical students sent a letter to top state officials — including Attorney General Josh Hawley, who was taking closed-door meetings in Washington, D.C. this week — calling on them to oppose federal efforts to repeal current healthcare law, writing:

“The letter urges the state officials to publicly oppose the ongoing efforts in Washington to repeal the Affordable Care Act, saying that repealing the act known as Obamacare would cause drastic cuts in Medicaid and ‘take away coverage for older, poor, and sick Missourians.’ The letter says that funding reductions for Medicaid would also hurt the poor and sick in the state, hurt the economy, and place more of the burden of caring for those currently on Medicaid on taxpayers.”

Missouri Doctor Ed Weisbart, who signed the letter, told KOMU:

“We didn’t elect them to be quiet and silent, we elected them to say what they think… We’re at a really important crossroads in our country and I think anybody who’s been elected to office, we deserve to know what they think about this bill.

Missouri Democratic Party Communications Director Meira Bernstein added:

“If Josh Hawley has time for closed-door meetings in Washington to talk about breaking his promise to Missourians and climbing the political ladder, he should absolutely have time to answer local doctors about where he stands on DC Republicans’ efforts to take away healthcare from Missourians. Anything less would be another tell-tale sign that he’s just a typical politician.”
