Trump Wants a ‘Repeal Only’ of Healthcare — Where’s Hawley?

As President Donald Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell are preparing for the U.S. Senate to vote on repealing current healthcare law without a replacement, the Missouri Democratic Party is highlighting that Attorney General Josh Hawley has been silent on the GOP’s toxic healthcare agenda.

This is despite the fact that Josh Hawley spent last year campaigning repeatedly against the Affordable Care Act, and now he is publicly weighing a run for U.S. Senate.

Among other damaging and costly reversals, a full repeal of the Affordable Care Act with no replacement would devastate the economy and healthcare for Missourians by :

  • Eliminating protections for individuals with pre-existing health conditions
  • Returning lifetime caps for health insurance coverage
  • Allowing insurers to kick consumers off coverage if they become sick
  • Pushing kids off of their parents’ plans

Republican candidate for U.S. Senate Austin Petersen, and Missouri House Representative Paul Curtman, who launched an exploratory committee, have both already made clear that they’re supportive of a full repeal of the Affordable Care Act.

Missouri Democratic Party Chair Stephen Webber added:

“If Josh Hawley has the time to give serious consideration to climbing up the political ladder, then the only possible reason that he’s still silent on the toxic Republican healthcare agenda is that he’s just another politician, putting his personal ambitions ahead of Missouri.”
