It could be interesting looking at the changes that follow from concussions that cause cognitive and other impairments for a significant period of time that are eventually recovered. Does the brain form new access routes to the impaired locations or does it switch sides of the brain developing different/backup parts of the brain?

At 15 I had a serious concussion and lost my ability to read. I slowly recovered basic reading skills by breaking words apart combined with knowledge of English, Latin, French, German along with bits of Spanish, Italian, Russian and Welsh; I am also somewhat dyslexic. At 18 I could sort of manage University barely. At 24 I had sufficiently recovered to try University again but that time I had no issues.
