Exclusive Content: Haters gonna gate

Content makers on YouTube are always looking for more ways to make new content and in the process make money. For many, it’s their full time job. Ads are not just making ends meet as they hire editors and more team members to join. YouTubers then look for other means; sponsorship, deals or their own ads baked into the video, others are doing all of that but also going to a new platform called Vessel.

Vessel is an online video platform that cost $2.99 per month where you get to watch content from your favorite YTbers (Those who participate) in advance of the video being released to YouTube. Some videos are are uploaded from 24 hours to a full 7 days before being uploaded to YouTube.

Paying to watch for videos that will eventually be free within a few days may not sound like a good way to spend ones money but many do and Vessel started partnering with YTbers to make exclusive content just for Vessel.

Annnnd of course people started hating on the YTbers for making exclusive content. Many of the YTbers did promise that all of their content will always befree, and to a degree that is true; all of their regular videos are free. Vessel partnered with them to make additional specific videos or video series. All of the other videos are up on Vessel first then on YouTube.

Take a look at LinusTechTips, a YouTube channel that has 2.6 Million subscribers. They have 3 channels LTT being the main one with all their videos being uploaded to YouTube 7 days after being on Vessel. Vessel partnered with LTT to make a video series called NerdSports. In the series, LTT team dubbed Keyboard Warriors play sports against actual teams. This series that was partnered with Vessel is exclusive only to Vessel. This makes sense; Vessel paid/hired the LTT team to make videos for Vessel. What Vessel decides to do with it is up to them. I am sure LTT has some say but overall its on Vessel.

The video where Linus introduces the series on his regular YT channel has almost 8000 dislikes with many of them complaining, that they don’t have the money or pointed that Linus said everything would be free. Again all his regular videos his team makes are free to watch on YouTube after the usual 7 days.

It is basically YouTube RED, a platform where YouTube paid YTbers to make content just people who pay for YouTube Red. Exclusive content will happen.

In the case of Nerd Sports, many wanted an ad version on Vessel for all to watch. Vessel may or may not do this. If they do, it will be way down the line.

Making content is hard, many think of you just record yourself and make millions. The truth is for many it is their full time job and they have a team that needs to get paid. If you enjoy their content, consider supporting them or not, but stop hating.
