The Special Occasion
I kissed my husband last night and told him I loved him. I told him I thought that we were, and our daughters, the special occasion. He agreed.
Today, I pulled out my mother’s wedding dishes that my Daddy sent me as a wedding gift. I told my girls how Mommie had picked out these dishes as a wedding gift to herself at a California flea market. She had been saving them for a special occasion, but had never used them. So, they remained boxed up. She died six years after marrying Daddy and, he had kept them in the same hugely fortified box that was used to ship them back to South Carolina. When I received it from him, I kept a cutout of the 14-year-old label as a keepsake. But, I put them in a bin, also vowing to use them for a special occasion — a holiday dinner, some landmark anniversary or birthday party. I’d been married for 15 years, and still never used one dish, not one glass. Until today…
Today, I celebrate us. My beautiful family, my love-filled life, me. Today, I’m using my and my mother’s wedding dishes. Please take time to honor, respect, and celebrate you. You are worth it!
