The Legalization of Medical Marijuana in Lebanon

Many suffer with the legalization of medical marijuana. The taboo nature of a topic like this in a country like Lebanon is expected to cause the controversy it does.

Some studies show cigarettes are more harmful than marijuana.

An anonymous 23-year-old university student decided to share her experience with the drug, which can be found below.

Multiple studies conducted have shown the benefits of some chemicals found in marijuana. Some notable revelations were the effects it had as an alternative drug for schizophrenia and Tourette’s syndrome.

Many drugs like epidiolex and more notably sativex which is used to treat breast cancer, include marijuana and are accessible in many countries around the world. However, they are completely prohibited in Lebanon.

Marijuana was criminalized in 1992 in Lebanon. The irony of the situation is that Lebanon generally produces thousands of acres anually.

Since cannibis is illegally grown in many parts of Lebanon and is accessible to even teenagers, why isn’t it permitted to be used in the medical industry?

Cigarettes are completely accessible to minors and many other people, causing diseases ranging from bronchitis to lung cancer. Marijuana, on the other hand, has shown no signs of being carcinogenic. It has actually been proven to have cannoboids which help fight against cancer. Tobacco, however, contains nicotine which is highly carcinogenic. If marijuana needs to be criminalized, then so does smoking in general.

Tobacco contains many carcinogenic components.

The first step is to decriminalize, at least in the medical field, something that can actually help. The second step is to legalize it.
