CAUTION: Only do this in self defense, always avoid fights.

Disclaimer: Like all self defense moves, this is not fool proof, can be countered or escaped from, and must be practiced diligently so it can be done correctly to defend yourself or a loved one in a real world situation.

Situation: Someone bigger and stronger than you grabs your arm and doesn’t let go. In this case, the assailant is facing you, and holding your parallel arm, as shown above.

Below are the steps:

1-Reach with your free hand across the assailant’s arm.

2-Grab the assailant’s pinkie finger with your whole hand.

3-Firmly wrap assailant’s pinkie around your index and middle fingers.

4-Press your thumb on the side of the pinkie’s nail. (CAUTION: Since the pinkie is now curled, any twist will be along the the pinkie’s joints and will cause massive pain.)

5-Twist the assailant’s pinkie the way you’d turn a car key in the ignition. At this point, whether the assailant likes it or not, they’ll have to let go of your hand. (CAUTION: Turn SLOWLY or you’ll end up breaking the poor assailant’s pinkie)

6-Put your arm on the assailant’s back as you twist to keep him turned away from you.

Practice reminder: ALWAYS do this move SLOWLY when practicing. If you do it fast, you will definitely end up breaking your sparring partner’s pinkie (which is no bueno!)

Why this move?: This is one of many ways to break free of an assailant’s grip. It’s a bit hard to master, but the good thing about it is your entire hand will always be stronger than anyone’s pinkie. So this is ideal for someone who doesn’t have much strength and wants to prevent a situation from escalating.

Also remember: This move doesn’t make you Tony Jaa, Iko Uweis, or (insert your favorite martial arts super star here). This is a trick that you use to escape or prevent a potential fight or assault, nothing more.

Always remember that the best thing to do when faced with a fight is to avoid it at all costs.

Be safe, be cool, and stay proper.
