Leaders Speak Up

There are problems inside and outside of every organization. Speaking about existence of a problem and its potential solutions is not a simple task.

Some people are blind to the problem in the first place, some deny responsibility, and most are afraid.

Fear of failure

Fear of failure is the main reason people don’t talk about problems, since as long as you don’t admit there is a problem, you don’t have to come up with a solution for it. However once you talk about it, you become responsible. Now you have to solve the problem, because you know about it or else you’re ignorant!

These problems are usually hard, but not impossible to solve. However, failure to solve them, counts as a personal failure and no one wants that. Fear of failure stops people from talking about big problems, and therefore stops them from becoming leaders.

Leaders talk about problems and try to solve them, but that’s not the only thing they do. They have to fight their way as they go against the fearful ones who do whatever it takes to deny the existence of the problem. Odds are against leaders, but that’s exactly what makes them who they are. The only thing leaders have on their side is time, since it’s just a matter of time before the fearful ones stop their resistance and start following them.

At the end of the day, leaders speak up about the problems they see, and are not afraid of taking a stab at solving those problems. The fearful ones can slow them, distract them or vilify them, but the only thing they can’t do, is to stop them.
