What Are Millennials Ruining Today?
Nothing. In fact, every time an article goes up complaining how Millennials have ruined another industry, the publisher rakes in the ad revenue for all the clicks and shares around social media. The articles don’t even need to be well researched (or well written), as long as the title is clickbait and the content gets people riled up enough to pass it on. The press is making easy money off the defensive response it evokes, and they don’t even break a sweat on challenging material.

Don’t make it that easy. If you feel like an article headline targets you, but you already know the statement is false, don’t even click the link. The glut of these articles are published on sites like Entrepreneur, Business Insider and Forbes. They seem like credible sources for information on a variety of markets, but they also have extensive knowledge on how to make more money. Millennials are a resource they’ve discovered just how to tap.

Business websites like this would never let the opportunity pass to monetize their pageviews, and they understand that the more those links get shared around facebook, the more views they can amass. Which demographic spends the most time on facebook? Which demographic is most likely to react and share accusatory content? You already know the answer. It’s time to put your foot down and commit to stopping these junk articles in their tracks. If these sites want to earn views, they’ll have to prove it with a higher standard of journalism.
