How I Decided To Stop Checking My Phone
It is not just your data that they are after.
You have already heard about the “dopamine rush” and how social media apps hook you to use them. You already know that you should spend less time checking your phone and like the rest of us, you can’t.
Your Data, Your Money, What Else?
Social media companies use enormus amounts of data to analyze our behaviors, and subsequently keep us hooked to our screens. But it is not just clicks and like that are being measured. Youtube also measures watch time and Facebook knows how long you spend looking at each post. From a financial point of view, it makes sense, the more time you spend on the platform, the more likely you are to view ads and click on something. But, from a personal perspective, it is your time that is being sold.
We complain that we can’t focus on work or study. Days pass with very little achievement. But all the above is nothing new. We know our time is being wasted. We frequently choose to use those apps to kill time. Or do we?
