Shop Friday Feature: NEWLIE
Happy Friday and we are so excited for this week’s feature! It is an honor to introduce NEWLIE, ran by an amazing woman, Leslie. She designs AND sells these fabulous diaper bags that LOOK LIKE HAND BAGS. That’s right, they don’t force you to carry around the traditional boring diaper bag.
Leslie was kind enough to answer some of our questions for a behind the scenes look at her company and advice she has for fellow mothers wanting to start a business.
Our Q & A with Newlie Co:
- Tell us a little about you, your shop and what you offer.
My brand is called Newlie and I design and sell stylish diaper bags that look like handbags. I founded my first company, Timi & Leslie, 17 years ago and had that company for 14 years. I then decided to move on and start something new. I’ve added new features to my new line of diaper bags and have been getting a great response.
2. What inspired you to open your shop?
I’ve always been an entrepreneur, starting when I was 7 years old. I knew when I left my first company I was going to start a new company very soon. It’s what I love to do!
3. How would you describe your shop’s style and feel?
The feel is FUN, CHEERFUL & STYLISH.
4. If you could give one piece of advice to fellow mamas on starting a business, what would it be?
I think it’s always good to do a little research and even find a mentor before you start your business. I’ve had so many moms take me out to coffee to pick my brain since I’ve been an entrepreneur in manufacturing for so many years. Know who your audience/customer is and know the best way to reach them. Also be consistent with the look of your brand and carry it through to everything- your website, marketing materials, social media- you make much more of an impact with a consistent, cohesive brand.
5. When you get really busy how do you balance running your business and being a mama?
Ha! I can’t tell you how many times I get asked that question and how many times I’ve asked it of other moms. I don’t think there is any magic secret. I do mom things in the morning getting my daughter off to school, work and exercise during the afternoon, go back to mom mode when my daughter gets home, and back into work mode once she’s asleep.
6. Where do you see your shop 1 year from now? 5 years from now?
I will eventually branch out into other products besides diaper bags, so I eventually see more diaper bag styles and other fun products.
7. What are you most proud of with your shop?
Well, what I’m most proud of is how I’ve been able to utilize all the knowledge and experience I’ve learned the first 14 years with my first company and with that, its been so much easier starting my new company. So I’m proud that this time around there is less of a learning curve and I’m able to get things right more often the first time. I also love my brand image. I did a lot of research and am so happy with how it turned out.
