I have no use for Centrists or moderates since Dubya. The Democrats did put up a centrist visionary. People are just tired of fence-sitters because they always capitulate to the right-wing. Given the choice between a Republican and a Democrat who acts like a Republican, people will choose the Republican every time.

You can’t say the Dems appealed to the extremes of the party instead of the base, and also say they pandered to the urban liberals. The urban liberal party members are either their base or their extremists. I believe that is their base. They capitulate to rural America too often if you ask me. That bunch is never going to vote for a Democratic nominee for president. They are isolationists.

I’m sorry middle America was fooled. They were though, as Trump is never going to help middle America, irrespective of which party ticket he ran on. Dems have not been leftist enough, and they are losing because of that. But only the most ignorant and silly voters saw Trump or Sanders as anti-establishment. One has been in Washington for over 30 years, and panders to the companies in which he holds stocks, the other is elbows deep in elitist shit, including the Clintons, and is also a billionaire who cares nothing about America.

None of that is why Trump won. He “won” because of sexism, a rogue head of the FBI, severe voter disenfranchisement, and (most of all) foreign interference and coercion. I would say a tiny percentage of his win is attributable to his policies and persona. Syria is the only place Russia has a base in the Middle East. It’s their door to the resources held there. It is foolish, looking back, for anybody to have disbelieved or doubted they wouldn’t have used any tactics necessary to protect it. They were going to help whomever the Republicans ran. It’s just their good fortune we picked one with financial interests there and in the outlining nations.
