Great piece, the prevalent myth of “great man history” would have us believe a select few have ordained the path of progress. That has never truly been the case, especially in the United States. These figureheads are crucial to social movements but they are not the sole cause of them. We tend to give credit to Abraham Lincoln and MLK when we should give credit to the abolitionist and civil rights movements. Social change is a communal event, not any particular hero’s story.
