Quick rant on Richard Sherman and my issue with #alllivesmatter

This shows just how ill-informed since people are on many issues. Perhaps #RichardSherman truly believes that in order for us to truly achieve equality that we have to look beyond race. That #alllivesmatter. To do so is dangerous. We can speak to the inequities that exists for POC’s without it being an excuse. We can lament having broken homes in the Black community without acting as if this is germane only to Black culture. We only see Black culture depicted as depraved, inherently violent, and morally bankrupt; as if these traits are a part of our genetic makeup. Sherman is a very generous benefactor, both in Seattle where he plays and his native Watts neighborhood in L.A. However, he is not immune to the trap of admonishing Black people from a White lens. It is a lens that reeks of the bootstrap mythology of America. No one, not even the majority of White people, can honestly say that they in fact were able to succeed simply by there own guile. It is not shiftlessness that created the #BlackLivesMatter movement, it was police brutality!!!! It was systemic racism and classism. It is corrupted politics and criminal justice system that disadvantages Black and Brown lives more. Branded with a Scarlet letter for simply being. It is the fact that Sherman himself is called a "crazy nigger thug" simply for celebrating making the play that clinched a Super Bowl birth for his team. That’s not playing the victim. That’s reality for all of us. Wake up!
