Debunking the Struggling Artist Myth

Here’s a short excerpt from The Passion Principles: 101 Ways to Express Your Creativity and Share It With the World …

10) Put struggle in its proper place

You hear a lot about “struggling” artists. You know, those poor souls who toil for years through the hardship of obscurity.

Sounds romantic, right?

Actually, no. It doesn’t sound appealing at all.

It’s a notion based on a misguided stereotype.

The truth is, challenges are a part of life. And not just for artists.

Every human struggles at one time or another — even people who pursue prestigious careers in law, medicine, and technology.

Yet creative people get unfairly labeled as “struggling” if success doesn’t come quickly.

That’s nonsense. Don’t believe the myth.

Create your own label. How about “thriving artist” or “enthusiastic artist”?

Doesn’t that sound better?
