The Diamond Structure

I have been thinking a lot about the structure of an essay that I am writing.

I have broken it up into three main sections as you can see above past, present and future. Though with this I never really saw a structure that would lend to evolving the essay. You can see below the first way that I was visualising the essay.
This to me represents the ever expanding lives that we live. You first have the intro then it expands ever so much more to the past, the present and then the future reaches into the unknown. With the conclusion caping it of before it expands into the unknown to far.

This made sense and still does to me but I feel that it doesn’t work for what I want any more. The essay is shifting and so does the visual of it.

With this in mind I am going for a structure that suits the structure of start, middle and end better. Just like my essay is falling into. You can see below the Dimond Structure as I am calling it. Here you have a similar structure to the last one but it fits with the essay far better.
I think for this essay the second section is where the bulk of the essay will be, the meat as some would say. It will be the section that look into the question that the essay poses and bring to light other things that are happening in tandem with this. So I feel that this section should most amount of space it can to delve into all aspects of this question. You would then have the other sections that could be seen as condiments to help set, expand our end this main section. Then in this metaphorical sandwich the intro and conclusion will be the bread. The parts that work together to house all the section’s. The intro will give them a foundation to build upon and the conclusion a door to silently slip away while it leads the reader to the ending of the essay.
