Margot Schultz appears in In the Best Interest of the Child, and the upcoming In the Best Interest of the Child Book 2: Family Matters.

Dynamic and vivacious Margot Schultz never met an obstacle she couldn’t finesse… or move out of the way. Office manager and executive assistant to Olivia Chandler, Margot is an enigma in the legal community. She always knows the right level of charm, wit, and panache to use. From grumpy judges to cagey Department of Children’s Service employees to Olivia’s peers–many of whom are less-than-ethical. No one stands a chance of besting Margot Schultz.

Early in her career, Margot worked for attorneys from the less than-ethical-crowd. While they might be gods and magicians in the courtroom, pulling out wins from lost-cause cases, outside the courtroom was another matter. Margot had no problem remembering every personal errand thrown at her outside of her job duties. Each gift she’d had to buy for multiple girlfriends and mistresses, and every lie she’d told to one of her bosses’ wives was permanently etched in her memory.

Margot heard through the courthouse grapevine the executive secretary of a successful young, female child advocate attorney was retiring for health reasons. There was currently no replacement. Margot grabbed her resume. She took an extended lunch and went in search of Olivia Chandler. Despite her unusual approach, Margot and Olivia clicked from their first meeting.

The two women have worked side by side for over ten years. Olivia admired Margot’s work ethic. She encouraged Margot to continue her education when time allowed, and even paid for it, calling it a sound investment.

Margot did, in time, advance from executive legal secretary to executive assistant. When her boys, Matthew and Kyle, graduated high school and enlisted in the Marines, Margot applied for the vacant position of office manager… and got it.

Margot knows Olivia has no family and was a foster care kid. She isn’t aware of the intimate details, but she is aware Olivia’s adolescence was traumatic enough for Olivia to keep herself closed off to most people. Her boss is most alive when focused and working on a case for their minor clients. The rest of the time, Olivia merely exists.

The divorced office manager is not of the mind a woman needs a man in her life to be complete. However, Bruce Bellamy wants to be in Olivia’s life, and Margot will do her part to put him there.

Things will get interesting.

Especially when the fierce, independent Margot meets Bruce’s old-fashioned, set-in-his-ways brother, Bishop.

Shunned by family for dropping out of college and marrying a man they did not approve of, Margot’s heart was shattered four years later when he walked away. With her nine-month-old twin boys in tow, she returned home, but her parents and siblings held fast to their bitter anger and turned Margot away.

By her wits and hard work Margot survived and made a life for her tiny family. But those years hardened Margot’s resolve to stay alone… and heart. She skirted and avoided a variety of male bosses through countless jobs. Margot flirted and dated outside of work, but no man will get close enough to break her heart again, no matter what he promised.

Fending off old, salty dog Bishop Bellamy will be no problem.

Until it is.
