Context in Naming
Great connections, Ellen! Another thing to keep in mind: context. For example, if your first name wasn’t Ellen, but Finley, having a last name with something that sounds like “gill” in it would make your name sound too “fishy.” I read The Virgin Way and Richard Branson has a good example of this. While names like “Virgin Airlines” and “Virgin Mobile” work well for his brands, he decided years ago to come out with a line of condoms. His wife wouldn’t let him name them “Virgin Condoms” for obvious reasons. Brands need to keep context in mind when creating names.
