PRESENT MOMENT

In today’s fast-pace world of technology and information at the tips of our fingers it can be harder to enjoy the life right in front of you. I know I’ve been guilty for being somewhere with friends or family, but not there with my whole self and constantly on my phone. Over the last year I’ve made a more diligent approach to be in the present moment. It’s allowed for me to witness all the beauties life has to offer and the delicate intricacies of the individuals that share these moments with me.

I’ve lived in other states over the years as part of my participating in Track and Field and due to this I didn’t see my family much. I returned to Texas last summer and the Christmas season was one of those moments of operating in the present. As my family opened gifts on Christmas morning I sat at a distance in silence. I watched each of them as smiles emerged when they received gifts of their liking and request. I saw the grimaces and stale looks of annoyance that comes when families have functions together. I saw how my nieces and nephews mysteriously grew overnight and how the faces of my parents marked older age and wisdom. I sat at a distance in silence and watched my family laugh and love one another. It was beautiful! It was so beautiful it brought tears to my eyes.

My family was baffled and confused, they didn’t know what was going on with me. I don’t think they’ve seen me cry since I was a child. I realized I’d missed so much over the years and was simply grateful for each of them in the moment. I was able to stay in the present long enough to witness the beautiful blessings I have right in front of me.

So I encourage you to take a moment and be present;
I guarantee you’ll find some of life’s treasures waiting for you!
