Today, share something you love about yourself — don’t be shy, be confident! — but that few other people know about you or get to see very often.

I love how genuinely silly and lighthearted I can be. Other than my family and very close friends, most people don’t see this side of me either because of the context or, more likely, because a nagging self-censoring habit. I can be very earnest and serious but can just as easily switch it up. I love how I’m able to put people at ease with a smile or a funny comment. I love when after an interaction, someone will say to me, in surprise, “You’re funny!” I used to say the goofy yet lovable Synclaire James, from the 90s sitcom “Living Single” was my kindred spirit (woo woo woo).

When I was in high school, I had sort of a mini-crisis because I thought “funny Kaara” was the only way people saw me and I began to worry that people only laughed with me but didn’t take me seriously. It happened again my sophomore year in college, but then I realized that my humor and bubbly nature was the way I connected with a range of people (that year I lived in a four-class ethnic theme dorm, for example). I saw it as a gift, and I still do.

Synclaire James (portrayed by Kim Coles) on Fox’s “Living Single.” The good-natured, flighty and sassy roommate. Underneath the hair, catchphrase and troll collection was a woman with her own brand of wisdom.
