Dysfunctional Thought Record(DTR)

Dysfunctional Thought Record is a tool of Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT)that used to file and encounter dysfunctional/Irrational thoughts and emotional consequences. DTR is a version of the pioneering cognitive therapy thought record, which was presented by Aaron Beck and his colleagues (Beck, Rush, Shaw & Emery, 1979).

Thought records demonstrate the association between thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Its application is easy and simple. It is used to record the thoughts, feelings and emotions of the client and provides a lot of space to record the client’s own experiences. Intensity of thoughts(positive/negative) and emotions(positive,negative) are rated between 0–100 on DTR sheet.

DTR sheet is presented above, having an Example. It shows that person had negative thoughts and Emotions with the high intensity. But Later, using Alternative thoughts about that situation, negative emotions were changed.
