Currently I am studying at Amal Academy.I am doing a 3 month extensive leadership program which helps the students in the period of transition from university to corporate sector. In this program we study how to write a resume, cover letter and other techniques that will help us to become proactive in job hunting process .Recently I got a challenge to do an in person drop in your dream company.

It was one of my biggest fear to get rejected.I am huge soccer fan,I still remember in 8th grade I did not give trail for soccer team just because of this fear. This fear grew with me.As I id not do anything to overcome it,it became my biggest fear.I thought of this challenge as a opportunity to face my fear.At first I was very confused.A part of my mind was saying this is nonsense. You don’t have to do this but I stayed motivated because I promised myself I will do anything to make me better than yesterday.I always wanted to be a member Youth Parliament of Pakistan.

Their vision is to provide guidance unbridled and unguided youth of Pakistan with a platform to empower the youth of Pakistan with the ability to understand the importance of their role in community services and to nurture their leadership qualities.I started to prepare myself for an in person drop.Following are the steps which I took to get prepared:

  1. Researched about Youth Parliament of Pakistan
  2. Designed Customized CV.
  3. Wrote Cover Letter.
  4. Practiced basic techniques of interview.
  5. Practiced my elevator pitch.

After doing preparation, I build up the courage to go and apply for membership ,in person. It was a long journey. The first hurdle I faced was the guard. He kept me indulged in formalities for half an hour. After that he allowed me to go inside and drop my Cv at reception.I was able to convince receptionist that I needed to hand over to HR manager. This took another half an hour. Finally I met the Hr manager,I greeted him warmly .I started my elevator pitch.I elaborated my social works and showed him that I am passionate enough to be a part of their team.Tayyab shahab was motivating .He listened to very carefully. He appreciated my passion. He told all the necessary details about how to proceed further. He was very friendly. He gave me his number. He told me to contact him if I face any difficulty .After leaving ,I sent him a message to thank him for his time.

Overall it was an awesome experience .There were some mistakes too like in confusion I was mixing lines of my elevator pitch.I need to work on that too. Also I learnt that never go for an interview on bike.My hairs was mess.

In the last I just want to say that if you are devoted to achieve anything ,you will one day .You just have to put in effort more than anyone else.If you want a job then dropping off your documents is an extra mile and it will help you to stand out from other candidates.

Hope it helps. :)
