Same Sassy, New Spoon.
Written by Madhura Rao.

If the Hill Road at Bandra west is your habitual hang out spot, you’ve probably already noticed an enchanting little restaurant in the making with a clever hoarding that says “Coming Spoon”. Yes, I’m talking about the all new outlet of The Sassy Spoon! Mumbai Foodie had the privilege of attending the select preview and tasting at the yet to open Bandra outlet.
The Sassy Spoon at Nariman point has certainly set a high standard for its sister concern to achieve. “Will it be at par?” was the only question on our minds as we headed to the soirée.

All our doubts were put to rest as we entered the restaurant. Lively, bold, and full of spirit, the ambience truly embodies the essence of sassiness. The signature quirky wall ( this time with vintage bread boxes) had our instant admiration. The contemporary light fixtures, the outré decor and the bold furniture made for an electric atmosphere. Chef owners Irfan Pabaney and Rachel Goenka were the most gracious hosts.
“We have encompassed in the menu most items which we hope will tickle the palate of all Bandra epicurists” says Rachel.
By the time we were done with the evening’s culinary debauchery, we knew exactly what Rachel meant. Here is a course wise list of what Mumbai Foodie recommends (and doesn't recommend) from the Sassy Spoon’s preview menu

Soups and Salads
Nothing beats the steamy warmth of a good soup. Especially when it comes in the form of smoked bacon and sweet corn. Or even a sinful broth of white onions and smoked scarmoza cheese sliding down your tongue. Your taste buds doing the Tango yet? Wait till you hear about the chicken and coconut with sweet potato and basil soup. Luscious goodness of chicken and coconut form a melange that your palate won’t let you forget. All three soups make it to the recommended list! We found the salads rather average.

Between Pois
The chefs at The Sassy Spoon have discovered what exactly has to be done with the humble home made Goan pois and they most certainly deserve a round of applause for it.
The crumbed cottage cheese with sriracha mayo was finger licking good and the Goan sausage one was nothing short of heavenly. The crispy chicken with mustard and curry leaf cream one is avoidable though.

From the skillet and Flat breads
Again, the Goan sausage wins. Mac and cheese with Goan sausage had us at the edges of our seats. A skillet full of cheesy, spicy, tangy goodness! We weren’t too impressed by the open faced flat breads.

Mains
The Sassy Spoon’s signature Spaghetti with lemon butter reminded us of why the restaurant is a forerunner in the culinary industry. That stuff is absolutely to die for! The Sambal spiced roast chicken and the piquant steamed Rawas were gastronomic delights too.

Desserts
Every superlative adjective falls short when you try describing the seven textured hazelnut and chocolate.
The caramel and peanut tart is made of stuff that dreams are made of and I’m not exaggerating. You can pick from the dessert selection with a blind fold on and you won’t be disappointed. We vouch for that.
All this gastronomic goodness paired with over 60 types of wines and other beverages including some eccentric cocktails (we loved the very berry kalakhatta!)
Hungry yet? I certainly am after all those delicious flashbacks! The Sassy Spoon opens its doors on the 24th of November and if très chic decor paired with avant-grade cuisine is your thing, you need to be there!
The queen of the suburbs is about to have new jewel in her crown. Are you ready, Mumbai?
Love, Madhura.
