spiritual emptiness

Lately, I’ve honestly been feeling like I have no purpose. It seems I’ve just been going through the motions, waking up and sleeping, and the day ends before I fully introduce myself to it. I feel like something is missing… perhaps it’s the lack of my connection with Allah (swt)? Is this what they call spiritual emptiness? If so, it feels very lonely up here.

At sometimes, we find ourselves burdened by guilt, feeling like we’re not adequate. We believe we’re not doing enough, not learning enough, and we place immense expectations on ourselves. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: ‘The son of Adam never acts with a deed better to save him from the punishment of Allah than with the remembrance of Allah.’ The mere fact that you remembered Allah and aspire to do better indicates progress of two steps forward.

It is human nature to ponder questions of purpose and meaning during moments of reflection. We are frequently on the lookout for something deeper, something that goes beyond the regularity of our daily life. This intrinsic desire to connect with something higher than ourselves is what drives us to seek spirituality, as we yearn for that deep sense of belonging and purpose.

The feeling of emptiness, especially on a spiritual level, can be a lonely place to reside. It’s as if there’s an unsaid dialogue within, a need for fulfilment that words frequently struggle to express. However, in realising this sense of nothingness, there is an opening – a moment of introspection that leads us on a journey of self-discovery and renewal.

It’s fascinating how we, as humans, carry this weight of expectations, both from within and from societal norms. The burden of feeling inadequate, of not doing or knowing enough, can overshadow our journey toward spiritual growth. Yet, it’s crucial to realize that this journey isn’t a race or a checklist to tick off. It’s a personal journey , one that requires patience, self-compassion.

Through this personal journey for fulfilment, we frequently uncover deeper truths about who we are, what motivates us, and how we interact with the world around us.

Everyone’s iman goes up and down. We all make mistakes and sin in different ways but the best of sinners are those who repent.

Thank you!
