The thing I like about watching movies within the monsterverse (still can’t believe that’s a term we are using now) is how low stakes they are. When you hit play you know you aren’t going into an intense drama that will stir up heavy emotions inside you, or that the movie will try and present a complex political angle that will have you thinking about the current state of global affairs; it’s just a movie about big CGI monsters destroying CGI cities while the little humans scurry around below hoping all ends well. Even if the movie ends up being bad, which Godzilla vs. Kong is not, you can expect some amount of stupid fun that can distract you for a bit from the troubles of the world. Fully aware of this and using the ridiculousness of the genre to his advantage is the wholly original Brian Tyree Henry.

In the film Henry plays Bernie Hayes, an employee at Apex Cybernetics, a company who appears to be hiding a secret that is tied to the Titans (the term they use for monsters like Godzilla and Kong). Bernie in his spare time hosts and produces a conspiracy podcast focused on the government gaslighting the public and specifically on how they are hiding/covering up events related to the Titians.
