終於等到英國（特別是在倫敦的）大型博物館閉館，看看香港的最新確診人士有 9 個較早前到過倫敦，證明倫敦的傳播已達高危狀態，特別在市中心。

首先在英國最早宣佈閉館的博物館，是在倫敦市中心由慈善基金會資助營運的 Wellcome Collection 於 3 月 17 日正式閉館。South London Gallery 亦已在 3 月 15 日關閉至另行通知為知。同樣較早作出閉館決定的還有 The Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA)，其展覽空間、影院、劇場、書店和餐廳也在 3 月 16 日起關閉。同一天，Camden Arts Centre 的畫廊和工作室也暫停開放。早前縮短開放時間的 The Photographers’ Gallery 也於 3 月 17 日起閉館至 3 月 31 日。
3 月 17 日早上 8 時，Tate 宣佈旗下 4 所美術館：Tate Modern，Tate Britain，Tate Liverpool 和 Tate St Ives 將於 18 日起暫停開放至 5 月 1 日，是整個英國博物館界在蘊釀閉館潮的重大轉折點，幾乎可以預示其他博物館將會跟隨並陸續關閉。當然，受政府資助的博物館，將要得到政府的允許或推動才能正式關上大門。
同日，宣佈閉館的還有 British Museum。館長 Hartwig Fischer 表示：「目前，我們不知道何時可以重新打開，但希望能夠盡快提供進一步的更新。在關閉期間，我們將更新和添加網上數位內容，讓觀眾與博物館保持聯繫，以不需要參觀博物館的新方式來分享我們的收藏，研究和計劃。」
另一大博物館 V&A，其分館 V&A Museum of Childhood 和 V&A Dundee 與主館也作出同樣的關閉宣佈。博物館鼓勵觀眾在 BBC 觀看《Secrets of the Museum》，以待在家中的形式欣賞和認識博物館工作人員在背後對待文物和展品的努力。
同日，公佈暫停開放的還有在 Hyde Park 的 Serpentine Galleries（連剛開幕兩星期的中國當代藝術家曹斐的個展：《藍圖》也被迫暫停，藝術家在接受訪問時早已明言：「但是這個展覽可以持續多久，沒有人會知道。隨著歐洲疫情爆發，這可能只是昙花一現。在這情況下，我更加把展覽看作是啓示錄。」詳情請看訪問文章。）。
