Adele & Beyoncé lead VMA with over 19 nominations

VMA 2016 nominations have been announced and it looks like Adele and Beyoncé are on top

Is it safe for Adele to say “Hello” to over eight awards? Not if Beyoncé can help it, coming in with her video “Formation” from her groundbreaking album Lemonade. This year Beyoncé has hit a new record in her career, having been nominated for the most VMAs in her career to date with over eleven nominations. As the name suggests, “Formation” hightlights creative choreography by no other than beyonce and a talented group of dancers. It should come as no surprise that the power images of “Formation” was nominated for the musical event’s biggest award, the video of the year.

Other honorable nominations for video of the year include Drake’s “Hotling Bling”, Kayne West’s controversial “Famous”, and Justin Bieber’s “Sorry”.

As for who will take the traditional annual “Moonman” award home, that all depends upon the loyal fans. An icon that dates back to 1984 where it was first awarded in radio city music hall. Since then, modern pop cultured has been introduced to new artists battling it out for the annual award.

MTV’s video music award also includes a variety of smaller categories including - best cinematography, best visual effects, best editing, best direction, best collaboration, and best art direction. This means a wide range of artists are sure to receive some kind of award during the ceremony.

The 33rd annual Video Music Awards will make it’s debut at Madison Square Garden in the heart of New York City, it’s initial location. The event will be expected fill over 18,000 seats at Madison Square Garden and will generate thousands of crew-production jobs. For the people of New York, this is exciting news since for the last two years the VMA has been held in Las Angeles.
