DUMMY BOY is the debut studio album by 6ix9ine. The project leaked a day after its promised released date, while 6ix9ine faced charges of racketeering and other firearm offenses. 6ix9ine was arrested and his tracks FEFE, TATI, STOOPID, and BEBE were left to promote his album on his behalf.

Stoopid

Opens with 6ix9ine’s signature “screamo” rap style. The song features and pays homage to Bobby Schmurda who is currently imprisoned and calling from jail while recording to the track. This track is nothing short of annoying, the chorus and Bobby Schmurda’s contribution are the only notable sections of the song. The chorus is lacking in depth however it is supported by a hard beat which would serve well in a club/ party environment.

Fefe

6ix9ine takes a calmer approach on this track. He strays from his aggressive rap style and delivers a more subtle flow. The song features Murda Beatz and Nicki Minaj. The production on the song is exceptional, the song itself is shallow but still catchy.

Tic Toc ft Lil Baby

Is a song about hustling, guns, and women. “She fly me out to Waikiki/ LV all on her bikini/ Take her money, go Houdini.” The song was leaked when the album was put up on his website for a brief period before his incarceration. Notable lyrics: “Might as well throw away the keys/ I got the streets locked”

Kika

This song features Tory Lanez who delivers an infectious chorus that is based around the idea that Tory and 6ix9ine made it on their own without any assistance from anyone. “I do my own stunts, Jackie Chan wit it” the chorus goes.

Mama

This song features Kanye West and Nicki Minaj. They bring cocky and confident rhymes to the track making it a banger. “Splish splash Apple Bottoms make that a** fat” 6ix9ine changed the original version of the song in which he rapped in the preview, “splish splash Fashion Nova make that a** fat.” to promote the fashion brand that reportedly paid him $100 000. Nicki Minaj is rumored to be behind the change seeing as her rival Cardi B is currently promoting the brand.

Waka

A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie is definitely the highlight on this track. He delivers melodic and infectious flows onto solid production by Scott Storch. 6ix9ine is a spoiler with his boisterous raps, the spotlight is taken by Boogie, he makes this track a hit. Notable lyrics: Got that 3.0 in my pockets got to hold my pants up”

Bebe

6ix9ine collaborates with a Latin Trap artist, Anuel AA. This is a Spanish delivery by 6ix9ine that centres around a disloyal woman who is unfaithful in love. The title resembles “Fefe” where he features Nicki Minaj, in both tracks the rapper explores new sounds.

Mala ft. Anuel AA

Carries the same concept as Bebe. In this case, the woman is described as a demon because she acts only with bad intent. This is a fast Spanish song by 6ix9ine.

Kanga ft. Kanye West

Is a certified Club banger, the song is humor-filled courtesy of Ye. 6ix9ine delivers his signature screamo sound and MurdaBeatz delivers with solid production.

“They tried to say I wasn’t black no more/ about as black as Macklemore”

Feefa ft Gunna

In this track, 6ix9ine takes a mellow and toned down approach, exploring the dangers of his surroundings and the impact they’ve had on his psyche.

“The streets so cold, gotta ride wit a pole/ Gotta stay ready for the smoke, cause n****s tryna take my soul”

Tati

This song consists of forgettable and basic rhymes. The beat and production are solid overall.

Wondo

6ix9ine delivers the same repetitive screamo flows, the song is redundant and is lacking lyrical prowess.

Dummy ft TrifeDrew

Is lackluster, the song is a remix of TrifeDrew’s “stuck in Dubai”. 6ix9ine appears on the last 30 seconds of the song and is outshined by a feature once again.

DUMMY BOY sees 6ix9ine straying from his usual boisterous sound to a more subtle, pop-rap approach. The rapper experiments with a Funky Spanish sound on BEBE and MALA. For the vast majority of this project, 6ix9ine relies heavily on features, and in most tracks including WAKA, KIKA, and STOOPID, the features carry the album. This album passes without memorable lyrics from rapper 6ix9ine himself. 6ix9ine is repetitive and his songs become dull as some of the featured artists stoop down to his uninspired and amateurish level.

Rating: 2/5
