After you decided to send your child to a Montessori preschool, the next hurdle you have to face would be how to choose the right one. First off, you have to make sure that you choose a fully accredited preschool. You have to be aware that Montessori is not patented and that means that any preschool can just claim that they are a Montessori school without using the Montessori curriculum. There are several differences between a traditional school and a Montessori school:

A Montessori school will enable your child to develop in a natural manner while the traditional school will only facilitate curriculum transfer to your child. In a Montessori school, a child will be able to have his or her timeframe in learning and development while in a traditional school setting all the children enrolled have to learn in the same timeframe.

In a Montessori classroom the whole environment is prepared and children will be taught lessons through prepared activities. Children in the Montessori school will learn through experience and participation in the activities. In a traditional classroom, the teacher stands in front of the class and this appears to be a passive learning environment wherein the children’s learning is only limited to what the teacher deems as significant for them to learn.

The Montessori school program enables the teacher to collaborate with the child and the child may also move and roam around freely for as long as he or she is not disturbing the other children. This type of environment helps develop self-discipline, and it also allows for faster child learning development. A lot of children become more motivated to learn because learning serves as a reward itself. In a traditional class, the child is expected to sit in an assigned seat the whole time they are being led into learning the lesson. The teacher is the primary enforcer of discipline and the child is motivated to learn through a reward and punishment system. There are so many options for a Montessori school today, and the problem remains on what preschool to choose. Here are some tips:

Look for a Montessori school center that is accredited and has the passion for motivating your child to have a fully developed learning. It’s also necessary for you to choose a Montessori school that prioritizes your child’s safety. The school should also have a strong belief in the philosophy of Montessori teaching.
