“In Jesus name, set your hearts on things above”

Freedom From Human Regulations Through Life With Christ

— Teaching —

First, I’d like to start this off in a spirit of worship — because I believe in it — so let’s thank him for a moment for what he’s done, what he will do for our lives — for his presence, and his supremacy:

Thank you Jesus… Praise you Father.. thank you for sending your Son to die.. thee One and Only‒ the Begotten.. Praise you Jesus.. thank you Father.. thank you Lord — .

Let’s pray: Dear Heavenly Father we ask you in the name of Jesus that your spirit will flow from us… and though we cannot see you, we know in whom we believe. I’m calling upon you Holy Spirit to anoint me as I can do nothing without you- I thank you Jesus for ministering to your people as you said in your Word that man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God — thank you Jesus amen.

This exert from which we will be reading is Colossains 2 verses 5–10.

For though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit and delight to see how orderly you are and how firm your faith in Christ is. So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human traditions and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ. For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority.

He is thee image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created, He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him: Jesus said, “I am in the Father and the Father is in me.” — “If then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give you the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

We, man‒ is a triune being — we are made up of three parts: our soul, spirit, and body — the body addresses the world, our soul addresses us, and the spirit addresses God. Now when you are baptized in the Holy Spirit, you now have the third member of the triune Godhead‒ being able to carry out the power of God — : Let me tell you something, when your will aligns with his will- all things become possible. I know this because He told me this- before I was baptized in the Holy Spirit I was hearing from five demons — now I’m hearing from God, at the moment I received he said unto me: “Through you I am made, through me‒ all things are possible.”

There is no ‘maybe’ or ‘if’, it is — : ‘is possible’. If you need the sun to stand still-, it happened and can happen again! If you need a lawyer- get Jesus Christ to speak to thee Judge to make things right for you! Plead the blood of the Lamb! –Amen! You want to talk power? –Let’s talk about power.

I know a woman who was very joyous throughout my time knowing her, I meant where ever she went she had people laughing. Just recently her mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and it showed on my friend, you could see her silencing as time went on and just recently her mother died of Alzheimer’s- of starvation but she is now exhibiting Philippians 4: 6–7 Which says Be careful of nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. She is now happier than before! She has superseded death! Death, has been swallowed up in victory!

Now I made a new friend last week whose grandmother too, was taken by Alzheimer’s, because of this- he stated, “How can your God who is of love take my grandmother”, whom use to call him a heathen for not going to church, “How can your God let it be a slow painful death for a child of God?” He was boarder line rejecting Jesus as savour… I felt the Spirit of the Lord before he even spoke… I explained that she is healed- no longer starving, in her right mind, and as believers we will see her again, from then on, she will be perfect in eternity. He responded by saying, “I will start to see it differently now — I am starting to believe in God again…” Hallelujah! He is now saved, and happier than before! Glory to God!

You want to talk power? There was a young Muslim girl who was born with her legs and feet twisted, intertwined with one another, never able to walk. One day she read a particular section in the Quran where it stated ‘There once was a man named Jesus who went about healing the sick’, that’s all she read — she asked her father, “Who’s this Jesus who healed?” Her father replied, “Oh he was just a man- he claimed to be the Son of God, but he was a prophet.” But she kept it in her mind and asked her father, “How can I be healed?” he said, “When we go to Mecca to worship, you can kiss the rock there and you’ll be healed.” She said okay. When the time came they went and she waited for hours in line — she finally got to thee stone and kissed it — nothing happened — I know why, kissing a rock doesn’t heal anybody of anything. She asked her father, “Why didn’t I get healed?” he said, “I don’t know.” That night when she was in bed — her room lit up as if it was morning, and thirteen men were standing about thee entrance of her door and she knew the one in the middle was Jesus. She said, “Are you Jesus?” He said, “Get up and walk.” she said, “I can’t.” He said, “Get up and walk.” She said, “You’re Jesus aren’t you?” He said, “Get up and walk.” So she swung her limp limbs to the side of the bed, Jesus and the twelve were gone and before her feet touched the ground the power of God snapped all of her bones in her legs and feet into place, and she felt strength enter them. She started running and jumping praising God around her room when her nurse heard for the first time footsteps in the girl’s bedroom — she swung open the door asking the girl, “What are you doing, you’re not able to do that — what happened to you?” and the girl answered, “I’ll tell you what happened Jesus came in to my room and healed me!” Sometime later her family was celebrating this event when her brothers took her aside and said, “You know we are happy for your healing, but all you talk about is Jesus and haven’t mentioned anything about Mohammad.” She replied, “Because Mohammad didn’t heal me Jesus Christ did!” Consequently, her family kicked her out and fortunately she found refuge in a Methodist safe house and to this day, she still gives her testimony as to what the Lord has done for her!

Now the previous book to Colossians — thee apostle Paul did not yet understand the resurrection from the dead because he too was imprisoned and he was tortured daily so he thought he was going to die and might as well attain the Christ’s resurrection. But, it’s not in what he does — it’s not in what you do — it’s in what He did, it’s about where you place your faith. Paul sees it here in chapter 2 verse 12 having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead. — Praise God! —

I noticed three key terms in this book — The Deity, The written Code, and The Cross.

1. Verse 9 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, It was prophesied, Isaiah said it, God spoke it in John — , thee Only begotten, he’s unique because he became flesh — born from a virgin, born under the law. This is very powerful because some of you think you are less of a man because you are here, but I’ve come to tell you that you have been given all the fullness in Christ — because he has fulfilled the Law.

2. The written Code was at enmity with us — he abolished that, cutting in two the veil between man and the Holy of Holies — making us perfect, unprovable.

3. And: The Cross — in biblical times, the way someone would deal with debt was, they would post this letter upon a public board letting all to see their shame — as this was a despite cry for help. From time to time their friends would attempt, I said attempt — you see their debt was too great. In rare instances, and this what was hoped for — , a wealthy individual would come by and see the debt, and nail his petition over the debtor, letting the one who was to receive the money, that he could see him, and he would pay it in full… Christ nailed your sins to the Cross — paying your sin debt in full, setting you free — : When He said, “It is finished.” — In the original Greek, he said, “Paid in full.”…

We’ve talked about power, seeing what the Lord can has done. Now we’ll talk about no power. Say, for whatever reason, I would leave here and go into the world, and live in the pleasures of it. Say I was wealthy: I owned twelve mansions all over thee earth, I could be given to any girl in hand in marriage… All I would want would be an endless growing lust, with the things I already have. What have I gained? Nothing.

Anything other than Christ’s Victory is a waste of time. Such things may have an appearance of wisdom, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence — a real answer in which you seek. Seek first the Kingdom of God, then everything will be added unto you.

Keep your hearts and minds on things above, don’t be bogged down by earthy things. Keep your sight on Him, who is seated at the right hand seat of God making ever intersession for you.

I’d like to close out with scripture, near thee end of Colossians… obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to win their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for his wrong, and there is no favoritism.

Let’s pray: Dear Lord, we thank you for everything you have done, we bless you. We thank you that you have opened our ears to hear and our eyes to see, that we will not walk by sight, but we will see the path where there is no path — for you are the solid rock of our foundation, the cornerstone of our faith — author and finisher of our faith… We thank you Jesus and we will continue to be rooted, built and established in you, holding to your nail scarred hand. In Jesus’s mighty name, amen.
