Consensus among marketers today coming up with a very bold statement:

“Traditional advertising is dead”

Of course traditional media powerhouses will argue against all of that clinging to their once lofty spot adding a proverbial “not dead yet,” and “barely breathing here, need CPR” somewhere quip.

But the proclamation is in good measure.

And if we ask you this one crucial question, you’d probably agree to that assessment too: where did you last search for something to buy for a gift?

Was it through a newspaper or through your phone while googling or searching on Amazon?

If you answered the latter then that confirms it. Online advertising has beaten the kings of old and we’re all (satisfied) culprits!

Why Online Advertising is Important?

Here at My Epic Year, we dare to rise above the status quo.

Traditional means old, inefficient, and slow. With our fast-paced interconnected world, we find it hard to even comprehend how one could even prosper relying on the old type of media.

Instead of sending out CDs and stringer news tips to local papers or TV ad proposals, I can easily vlog about my adventures on Youtube and get the right social media audience to promote everything on the go.

Traditional = boring, expensive, bordering lies, and forced.

Online = exciting, more affordable, truly organic, and comes naturally.

And we’re already betting on that future.

Online ads focus on people with emotions or feelings and not just statistics. It helps provide an avenue for anyone to be heard or seen. Anybody could be part of the next big thing.

The Next Big Thing is Already Here

Social media is where the new battleground is. It’s everything rolled into one.

You can connect with everyone over the world without leaving the comfort of your home. You get to meet strangers and soon to be new friends. You can play games, even use video chats, get your news, share your views, and even have fun with cat memes.

With social media comes the rise of another popular method of advertising today: influencer marketing.

Large corporations ride these waves too!

Instead of paying huge amounts of money to ad firms, instantly recognizable companies such as Nike tap YouTube influencers for organic campaigns such as the Make It Count video film.

And it’s not just social media. There’s the use of email for a more specific audience promotion, use of automated bots as frontline support channels, and SEO (now in Google’s hands).

Skittles once used a series of Youtube videos in which a single person got to watch its “Super Bowl” ad which gained lots of buzz on Facebook Live.

Uber’s email marketing efforts nails their branding while Sprint wooed customers with ads that told stories but just online.

The future will be made of ads like these that speak to a very specific targeted audience while promoting and selling without you noticing and at the same time communicating with them real time on social. Some of these could cost a few bucks to zilch.

These are not anymore just bold predictions.
