I think my favorite part of this was the quote by Mark Twain. 
It takes so much more effort to make something shorter and concise and that quote captures the hard work good story telling takes.

We do this today in acting “don’t tell the story, show it” and you mention the same principle of trying to use pictures when you can replace the words.
